Voting

Elections are the single most important way that we can gain accountable representation in lawmaking.

  • Primary elections have become very important because they are where party candidates are selected for federal, state, and local elections. Primaries are often held at inconvenient times – but please make the time. At least the lines are short!
  • Midterm general elections are held in the U.S. every two years, at the midpoint of a president’s four-year term. They focus on congressional, state, and local offices and include many gubernatorial (governor’s) elections.
  • Presidential general elections are held every four years. You get to vote for federal, state, and local officials, including the president and vice-president.

We get the Congress and the legislature that we vote for. If you don’t like all the partisan posturing and bickering, then don’t vote for fighters.

It is not enough to just vote for the person “on your team,” you also want good people on your team – people who care about your issues and are wise enough to know how to work with other legislators to get your problems solved.
